GTBC Big Sit 2014!!

7:55pm
Alright we're in the home stretch! I think we're all happy about our sightings today- we've got a couple of more target birds we're waiting on- and hoping a couple of birds we've seen elsewhere in the park come for a quick visit. I'll have a full wrap-up of the day... But not until tomorrow! In the mean time, we've got a chuck-will's-widow to listen for!

-----------

5:50pm
Best part of the day: quick break for some home cooked potato salad!

-------------

3:40pm
Patiently waiting for the cool of the evening! We've managed to keep seeing new birds through the early afternoon, although the pace has slowed. Waiting optimistically for new arrivals on these afternoon winds.

-------------

1:28pm
Not too bad for the early afternoon! Scarlet Tanager!

-----------

12:05PM
Half-way home! We're cycling through for lunches and bio-breaks. It's been a great morning with more birds than we expected! Still missing a couple usuals for the evening. Keeping our eyes on the skies for any moving hawks this afternoon.

------------

10:31am
We are flush with MISSISSIPPI KITES right now. We've been getting great looks at some neat building and incredible maneuverability through the treetops! We've got 6 along the drainage stream! Wow! Kites all the way down!

------------

9:20am
Not sorry to say we've had a great morning and the birds continue to clutter through the treetops! The sunshine I was pining for earlier is here! We've got the tent set up for some relief though.

-------------

Sarah made cupcakes!

------------

7:40am
Sun's up and the birds are out! Warblers are poking around and FRANKLIN'S GULLS just went overhead!

-----------

6:07am
Hour #1: good action for this early hour. Decent star gazing for the city, two EASTERN SCREECH OWLS came for a visit, and the NORTHERN CARDINALS and BLUE JAYS are waking up. We could use a little sunshine to warm up- I'm sure we'll have it in spades soon enough!

-------------------

5:05am
We've made it! After taking another strategic hour of sleep, we've made it to our Big Sit site! And our first bird of the day?!?? Mockingbird! #suburbanbirding! #GTBC14
-------------------
Well, we're set up and ready to sit! Check back here for updates and the recap for the day. I'll blog for as long as my phone (and my eyes) lasts!

If you want to come out and see us in action, and maybe even help sit (that is, help us bird!), come out to Brison Park in College Station. Look for the tent, ladder, and small crowd milling around in a circle!
